Rotary limit switches are directly attached to the gearbox of the motor with a shaft and a coupling. The coupling helps in relieving stress to the shaft of the limit switch in case of Misalignment . The movement of the gearbox rotates the shaft of the limit switch .

Rotary Geared Limit Switch GRLS is used to trip motor supply when the moving loads reach the extreme end positions of working zone. The driving motion is transmitted by worm gear through worm shaft. The rotations and movements are transmitted to switches by adjustable cams.

Gear Ratio Sizing & Cam Setting Guidelines

The Rotary Geared Limit Switch (GRLS) connects directly to the crane hoist drum shaft or pinion drive. As the rope drum rotates, internal reduction gearing turns adjustable multi-lobed cams which trip individual snap-action contactors at preset top and bottom travel limits. This model is the 1:48 ratio variant with 4 contacts in an IP55 enclosure, suited to dust and weather protected installations.

Gear Ratio Calculation

To calculate the required gear ratio for your crane hoist:

Ratio (i) = (Total hoist lift height in metres) / (π × drum pitch diameter in metres × useful cam rotation)

Available standard ratios: 1:48, 1:60 and 1:96 — this page covers 1:48. Enclosure protection options: IP41 (indoor fabrication bays) and IP55 (dust and weather protected).
